Now this overwhelming heat has come we definitely need to stock up drinks and refreshments in order to hydrate before these temperatures kill us. And summer hasn't started yet officially... Run away if you can. :D 

There is no better way to get hydrated  than drinking a lot and if you do it with healthy and refreshing beverages free from additives even better.

CHAI ICED MATCHA LATTE


Matcha tea is one of the most exclusive and special teas that exist. It's a green ground Japanese tea that is elaborated mashing the leaves until  it makes a thin powder. Same as the rest of green teas it has many medicinal properties and a high content of antioxidants. It has a sweet but intense taste although it is softer than most of green teas. The traditional way of preparing it consist in pouring the hot water in a bowl along with the teat and whisk it with a utensil made of bamboo wood that is called chasen. This way you get a creamy texture with a foam that makes it so delicate and special.

As most of the rest of teas it combines very well with spices and is really good both cold or hot. The best way is using whole grains spices instead of powder, and mash them a bit with a mortar and pestle. Then roast them in the pan so they release the aroma and warm up the milk there for a few minutes. 

So here's the recipe!

CHAI ICED MATCHA LATTE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

• 2 or 3 TBSP. matcha tea
• 2 glasses of rice milk
• 1 glass of mineral water
• 1 tsp. grated nutmeg
• 2 Jaimaican pepper corns
• 2 cardamom seeds
• 1 tsp. ginger powder
• 6 cloves
• 2 star anises
• 1 TBSP. maple or agave syrup
• Ice cubes

ELABORATION:

  1.  Put all the spices in the mortar and mash them a little.
  2. Them roast them for a few minutes in a small sauce pan. Then add the water and milk and warm until it starts to boil, then low to medium heat for another 5 minutes
  3.  Turn off the heat and allow to cool completely. You can put it in the fridge .
  4. Add the the matcha tea and whisk energetically with a whisk or milk frother.
  5. Serve with a few ice cubes and enjoy!
