Halloween will be happening quite soon so it is time to start thinking about recipes and decoration ideas, don’t you think?!
As promised, here’s one of the two easy Halloween treats I prepared with Crímenes de la Moda (Crimes of Fashion blog). These are Frankenstein puffed rice cereal-marshmallow bars, a cheerful and enjoyable recipe to prepare on this horrific occasion and bring a funny twist to our table!
Remember you can watch de video (in spanish) that we filmed together here, so you can have a more visual idea of every step. It is always useful having a written version of the recipe and the elaboration step by step. The other recipe will also be posted on the blog soon
If you also are planning on setting up a Halloween party with friends and kids, I recommend you have a look at this website: Oh my fiesta where you will find plenty of free printable stuff with the Halloween theme for your costumes or to organize cool activities for the kids with masks, wrapping candy bags or things to dress your table.
So here’s the recipe for these monstrous Frankenstein rice krispies-marshmallow treats!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 box of puffed rice cereal
- 2 bags of marshmallow candies (if you find white ones, much better)
- 1/2 bar of butter (125 gr. aprox)
- 1/2 chocolate bar
- Green and red food coloring
- 1 piece of white fondant/sugar paste
ELABORATION:
- Melt the butter in the microwave until it is liquid.
- In a saucepan at a medium heat, melt the marshmallows. When they are melted, add the butter and green coloring, and stir. (If the marshmallows are pink or other colours, the green colour won’t be very intense).
- In a bowl put the rice cereal and incorporate gradually the marshmallows while you stir well with a spatula.
- Use a rectangular oven tray, pour the mixture all over it and spread with the spatula or the back of a spoon to achieve around 2 cm width. (You can use some baking paper over it so the spatula doesn’t get sticked).
- Allow to cool at room temperature or in the fridge.
- When it has hardened, cut it into rectangular pieces. In a bowl, melt the chocolate in the microwave.
- Introduce the pieces in th melted chocolate to form the “hair” of the Frankenstein- Use a wood stick to make the mouth.
- For the eyes, make tiny balls with some fondant and place them squashing them a bit. Use the red colouring to draw the eyes.
- Serve on a platter or dish.
