This strawberry and coconut bowl I posted a while ago is one of my favourites however this açai, blueberry and banana one has rise to the top of the list.
If you are not yet familiar with the açai berry (pronounced assaí) I'll tell you some facts about it. It is a wild berry that grows in the tropical jungle of northern Brazil, in humid areas and near the Amazon river. It is a small circular fruit similiar to blueberries and blackcurrants with a dark purple colour and an interesting chocolaty taste. It was consumed by the natives for centuries and used as a natural remedy for various illnesses.
In recent years many researches have been carried out to study the properties of the açai and amazing nutritional and health benefits have been discovered. Some of them stand out like its antioxidant high content, vitamins A,B, C and Omega 3, 6 and 9, as well as minerals and a high amount of fiber and vegetable protein (more than eggs). It is therefore considered one of the best superfoods thanks to its diuretic, detoxifying, energetic and depurative effects.
So yes, this little berry is quite an amazing food.
Finding the actual açai fruit is very complicated here so the easiest thing is to use the concentrated paste or like I use in this case, powdered. This little nature's treasure is a bit expensive, around 210€/kilo, but the good thing is that all the magnificent properties are very concentrated so we just need a small amount for this preparation.
The flavor of the açai combines really well with blueberries and the banana gives that super creamy texture and makes it satiating at the same time. There is a big difference if you use frozen fruit, specially the bananas, you'll see the result is very similar to ice cream! So delicious! But of course you can always use fresh fruit instead of frozen. About the amazing properties of my beloved blueberries, I already mentioned them before since they also have quite a few and its flavor is for me the best amongst all the berries.

AÇAI, BLUEBERRY AND BANANA SMOOTHIE BOWL RECIPE
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 ripe bananas, peeled and frozen
- 125 gr. (1 cup full) frozen blueberries
- 1 tsp. açai powder
- 1 tsp. agave syrup
- 1 tbsp. hemp seeds
- Rice or almond milk
Toppings:
- Cocoa nibs, moringa powder, poppy seeds, teff flakes, purple corn powder, a few slices of a banana and some blueberries...
